DARKBAR WORLD TOUR IN HOSSEGOR

Outside Cafe de Paris!

Last night the Dark Bar World Tour ran aground in Hossegor, France at the world famous Cafe de Paris. Anyone worth their salt knows that the Cafe de Paris is the real deal when it comes to authentic watering holes in this town. The bar itself was built in the the late 1800's and has historically hosted some of the most debaucherous patrons from local drunks to traveling drunken professional surfers in its time, undoubtedly attracted to its 180 degree wrapping terrace, a heckler's paradise. No where else in this town can you yell out "PLAY THE FKKKIN STOOOOOOGES MAAAAAN" and you'll be sure to hear a song from Fun House immediately. All the blow-in just-got-here-tourists all head to the central to all the tourist traps, which are great if you like expensive weak drinks (if you can get close enough to the bar to actually order one) and a mix of Cher/Daft Punk/and Kylie Minogue blaring away.

Outside Cafe de Paris!

Enough with the history lesson. Here is a quick synopsis of the night: The theme was Captian Jack and Salty Seadog, a sort of Longshoreman's ball. There were Pirates, Commercial fisherman, Love Boat employees, Parrots, pipes, giraffes, a lumberjack, a few Pogues songs, Johnny Cash, Jack Daniels, the Panic skate crew (Crazy David from Marseille) and also a couple of heads from the Bayonne skate crew too...

Sailers and pirates!

-Party starts at 10pm (Here in France in the summer time, it doesn't get dark until 11 PM)
-10:05 first glass heard shattering
-10:23 first volley of fireworks inside the bar
-10-25-10:40 various bottle rockets and fountain fireworks erupting in and outside the bar.
-10:45 Panic skateboards crew almost lights up the terrace with an unspecified incindiary device.
-10:50 First warning from the village security service. No warning from the bar owner, though.
-11:00 John Williams' 'Jaws' theme blasts across the stereo system.
-11:30 fireworks resume.
-11:45 Police drive by and visibly witness the drunken pirate scene firing roman candles into the street from the bar. They keep going as if they know better.
-12:15 I walk the plank and head for port.

Fireworks resume.

After I left, the party raged until closing. Then everyone went to the infamous Bakoua nightclub to try their luck in simulating a salmon spawn.

Volcom Europe would like to thank Vincent and the whole staff of the Cafe De Paris, Guillaume Dartenuc and Jebrane for the decorations and skillful bartending, and all of the punters that showed up!!!! See you at the next stop!

Cordially,
