NIGHT OF THE LIVING VERT – CASTRO URDIALES -SPAIN– JUNE 30TH 2012

Finally the rabid Vert zombies arrived to Castro Urdiales last Saturday. I would like to say it was a dreamed sunny Saturday. But the devil sent us lots of rain.
Every old dog in the area showed up. They didn´t care about the weather. We are talking about a Half Pipe contest, which is not happening often lately. After enjoying a delicious BBQ with sardines and meat by our official chief Rigo, we started with the qualifications at 18:00 after drying the rampd. Classic dudes showed up (Ibabe, Kako, Iker Ondarra, Tato, Gorka Muñecas, Julien Benoliel pad-less…
(crazy) and some more) and in the end 20 vert riders disputed the final spots.

Ibon Mariño, Andy Scott, Alain Saavedra, Alain Goikoetxea, Diego Doural, Danny Leon, Bruno Rouland and Jean Postec were the 8 finalists. Alain Gtx was a bit injured after bailing on a incredible gaytwist stalefish, so he decided not to skate the final. Instead of him Urtzi Unanue represented.
The rain forced us to drink a couple more beers and get off the pads and then final assault started, the crowd was excited because of the show in front of their eyes and everyone ripped as hell.
Urtzi pulled some good airs, Bruno Rouland showed all his old school repertoire for everyones delight. Diego Doural knows how to fly continuously and Danny Leon did some good judo airs. Yeah Danny!

Alain Saavedra took the 3rd place: This guy has been skating vert for less than a year but he did milionqs of tricks such as 4 diferent body jars in a row: judo body jar, "sean penn", sharon rat body jar and one never seen before: judo-sean penn body jar (he named it Jose Luis Moreno (it´s like taking the front foot out forward then backward and then smashing the tail)). Awesome.
Second place was for the truth vert rider Jean Postec. Amazing lines flying high and mixing good liptricks with flip indy´s, fs heelflip airs and Mctwists…great show Jean!. But everyone agreed on the first place. Mr Andy F#ckin Scott. He skated the vert like a mini ramp: Sugarcanes, bs disaster revert, fs blunts, airs, flip sads…and tons of great tricks…he even did an incredible trick called Scrambled Eggs. This is an extrange flip eggplant...
Sadly Andy slammed hard on a caballerial. He suffered a knock out, but he´s strong as heel and he recovered fast.
